The 2nd International Conference on Islamic Education and Instruction (ICIEI) 2024 “The Transformation of Islamic Education and Science Technology in The Digital Era”

Surakarta, October 22, 2024 The Faculty of Islamic Education and Teaching proudly hosted the 2nd International Conference on Islamic Education and Instruction (ICIEI) 2024 with the theme “The Transformation of Islamic Education and Science Technology in The Digital Era”. The event took place at Syariah Hotel Solo from 09.00am to 17.00 pm.

The conference opened with a welcoming speech from Prof. Dr. Fauzi Muharom, M.Ag, Dean of the Fakultas Ilmu Tarbiyah (FIT), who expressed his appreciation for the attendees and participants. In his speech, he stated, “We are honored to have 120 presenters from 36 different higher education institutions, both from domestic and international universities.”

The keynote address was delivered by the Rector of UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Toto Suharto, M.Ag. He emphasized the importance of embracing technology and innovation in Islamic education to remain relevant in today’s rapidly changing digital landscape. He said, “The integration of Islamic values with advancements in science and technology is critical for the future of education. This conference plays a pivotal role in fostering dialogue and collaboration among scholars from various regions to achieve that goal.”

The Plenary Session featured distinguished speakers from four different countries. The first speaker, Prof. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., from Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia, shared insights on the role of biotechnology in the fight against climate change. Dr. Mohamed Soufiane Jouini from Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, discussed the Importance of Artificial Inteligence in the Geo-Science and Petroleum Engineering. Prof. SS Khumalo from the University of South Africa provided Towards cocktail leadership mix in challenging and disruptive educational contexts, and Dr. Howard Scott from the University of Wolverhampton, UK, highlighted the potential impact of artificial intelligence on the future of education.

In the Parallel Sessions, participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions through two virtual rooms via Zoom, hosting speakers from various countries, and two on-site rooms at Syariah Hotel. Presentations were delivered in both English and Arabic, enriching the intellectual discourse on Islamic education and science in the digital era.

The event also welcomed several notable speakers, including representatives from STIAB Jinarakkhita Lampung. During the Closing Session, the Chair of ICIEI, Dr. Heldy Ramadhan Putra Pembangunan, M.Pd., expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee, speakers, and all participants for their contributions to the success of the conference. He remarked, “This conference has created a valuable space for knowledge exchange, and we hope it will inspire further collaboration and innovation in Islamic education.”

The event successfully concluded with high praise from participants, marking a significant step in advancing the dialogue on the integration of Islamic education and modern technology in the digital age.
